Hiligaynon Bad/Curse words to know

Hiligaynon, also known as Ilonggo, is a language full of charm, melody, and cultural richness. However, like any language, it has its share of bad words and curse words. While it’s important to understand these words for the sake of awareness, using them can be offensive and disrespectful.

To be honest, even writing and reading these words makes me uncomfortable. It’s best to avoid using them, but knowing these words can be useful to recognize if someone is speaking to you disrespectfully or using inappropriate language. This knowledge empowers you to navigate conversations more effectively and maintain respectful communication.

Hiligaynon Bad/Curse Words

  1. Yamuhat – Labutaw
  2. Linte or Lilintian – The ilonggo/visayan variant of ‘lintek’
  3. Yudiputa / puta – a faster and contracted version of iho de puta or “son of a bitch”. Can be contracted to ‘diputa’ or ‘dipuga’ (softer version) that can be used as an expression.
  4. Damuhal – Rude
  5. Bilat inana / Bilat inamo – (His/Her) Mom’s pussy
  6. Panulay ka (You’re Demon or Satan)
  7. Demonyo ka (You a Demon)
  8. Yawa ka (you satan)
  9. Pesting yawa (same insult stronger tone)

  1. Buang (crazy)
  2. Animal ka – pertaining to someone who is unhuman in many things (good or bad). (Parang hayup lang din).
  3. Batinggilan – Hardheaded
  4. Hangag – Stupid
  5. Burikat (prostitute)
  6. Biga-on – horny, usually to girls
  7. Bulay-ug (useless)
  8. Bugok – stupid/moron, usually to boys
  9. Iyot/yot – literally means ‘fuck’. Used as an expression.
  10. Agi (pronounced a-gī) – derogatory word meaning ‘gay’
  11. Agitot – combination of agi (gay) and itot (another word for ‘fuck’). means “gay fucker” or “faggot”
  12. Alpot – means ‘slut’
  13. Putyong – derogatory term of someone who is ‘uncircumcised’ or supot in tagalog.
  14. Bilat – a common Visayan word for ‘pussy’ or ‘cunt’
  15. Bilat sang iloy mo – “your mom’s pussy”. Used as an alternative to yudiputa or “son of a bitch. May be contracted to “latsingiloy mo” or “bilatsi/latsi”.

That’s it. I can’t hold myself anymore with these words. Remember, it’s okay to know these words for the sake of awareness, but you should avoid using them to maintain respectful communication. Understanding these terms helps you recognize when someone may be crossing the line, but it’s always better to choose kindness and positivity in your interactions.
